The courage of a yes

Support the road to priesthood in the Holy City

This year Casa Kerigma is accompanying two young men who have chosen to set out on the road to priesthood in Jerusalem, in agreement with the Latin Patriarchate, between the Holy City and the lands of the Bible.

Formation for priesthood, in Jerusalem

This year the mission of Casa Kerigma in Jerusalem and Ephesus takes on a new and concrete form: accompanying towards priesthood two young men who have chosen to begin that road in Jerusalem.

In agreement with the Latin Patriarchate, the two will enter a period of deep discernment, to test and to guard the call to serve God and their brothers and sisters. Their formation will pay particular attention to the ministry of Consolation and to the lands of the Bible, places where the Word became history and goes on becoming flesh.

The complexity of Jerusalem, its spiritual richness and its unceasing argument will be their first great laboratory of listening: a place to learn to embody the Word in a cenacle style — made of sharing, silence and communion — and through a pedagogy of wisdom that forms the heart and not only the mind. Part of the journey will also be spent in Ephesus, in the other house of Progetto Kerigma: the places of Paul, of John and of Mary, where the first Christian communities learned how to be Church.

The course will also give particular attention to ministry in the great cities: a dimension calling for travel and extended stays in large metropolitan areas, learning in the field to read the challenges and the questions of faith that arise in today’s urban world.

So that their whole-hearted dedication is a weight borne — and upheld — by many.

Four reasons, put plainly

Two vocations, a shared discernment

We accompany two young men on their road to priesthood, in agreement with the Latin Patriarchate.

A place of formation like no other

Jerusalem and Ephesus are not merely places on a map, but schools of listening, of argument, and of the Word made flesh.

A style and a pedagogy

The formation follows a cenacle style and a pedagogy of wisdom, with particular attention to the ministry of Consolation.

A weight shared

Their whole-hearted dedication needs the support of a wide community, accompanying them in concrete ways.

Every contribution becomes something concrete

These are the costs of the daily and formative life of the two young men. We put a figure beside an item only where we genuinely have one: the others will appear once they are verified.

University fees €750 per person, to enrol in the course of studies towards priesthood. € 750
Food and utilities The day-to-day cost of living and keeping going through the years of formation.
Medical insurance The health cover needed to live and study abroad.
Visa costs The paperwork costs of the permits to stay and study in Jerusalem.
Travel Above all the journeys tied to ministry in the great cities, which calls for extended stays in large metropolitan areas, and the travel between Jerusalem and Ephesus.

Say your “yes” too!

Every contribution, large or small, helps these two young men carry their yes with a quiet mind, knowing they are not alone. The donation is made to Attendiamoci ODV ETS, earmarked for the fund for the two formation grants.

In case you were wondering

Can I claim tax relief on my donation?

Yes, if you pay tax in Italy. Attendiamoci is a volunteer organisation on the national register of third-sector bodies, so a donor can choose between two routes (art. 83 of the Third Sector Code): take 35% of the donation off your income tax, on up to €30,000 a year — €100 given means €35 less tax — or deduct the whole donation from your taxable income, up to 10% of the income you declare. The two cannot be combined: you take the better one. The law requires the payment to be traceable, which here it always is, because you give by card or by direct debit. Keep the receipt we email you: together with your bank statement, that is what your tax return needs.

What is the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem?

It is the Catholic ecclesiastical authority of the Latin rite in the Holy Land: it accompanies and recognises the course of formation, together with the Italian home dioceses. Progetto Kerigma was founded under its patronage — in the person of the Patriarch, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa — alongside that of the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova and the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches. The tie is concrete: the house in Jerusalem belongs to the Patriarchate, which has entrusted its running to Attendiamoci, and the project is led by a priest sent by his home diocese and serving with the Patriarchate.

Where does my donation go?

Straight to the fund set aside for the two formation grants: study, food and utilities, medical insurance, visas, travel. Attendiamoci ODV ETS accounts for the use of the funds at the end of the year.

What is Attendiamoci?

A volunteer organisation (ODV ETS) working since 2001, which runs educational and spiritual programmes for young people in Italy and in Jerusalem, among them the Casa Kerigma project.

How do I change or stop a recurring donation?

From the donor area, using only your email address: update your card, change the amount, switch between monthly and yearly or stop altogether, without writing to anyone. It is the same area used for every donation on this site.

Can I help without donating, through the Italian 5×1000?

Yes, and it costs you nothing: on your Italian tax return, sign in the volunteering box and write the tax code of Attendiamoci ODV ETS, 92035090809. It is a share of tax you have already paid, which stays with the State if you do not assign it. The 5×1000 goes to the organisation and not to a single project, so it supports all of Attendiamoci’s work, Casa Kerigma included.
